🐢 About Marsa Mubarak – A Dugong Sanctuary
Marsa Mubarak, also known as Turtle Bay, is one of Marsa Alam’s most pristine and protected marine areas. This sheltered bay is a crucial feeding ground for the endangered dugong (Dugong dugon), a large herbivorous mammal that has become extremely rare in the Red Sea. Here, the seagrass beds provide an ideal habitat for these gentle giants, which can grow up to 3 m in length and weigh over 400 kg. In addition to dugongs, the bay is home to an impressive population of green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas), easily spotted grazing on the seagrass or resting on the sandy bottom. The reef is also teeming with colorful fish, including angelfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, and the famous clownfish. The water clarity is exceptional, often offering visibility exceeding 20 m, making Marsa Mubarak a world‑class destination for snorkelers of all levels.
